Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What is a desoldering pump used for?

A: A desoldering pump is used to remove melted solder from circuit boards or components. It's essential for fixing mistakes, replacing parts, or reworking solder joints.

Q: How does a desoldering pump work?

A: The pump uses a spring-loaded plunger to create suction. First, you melt solder with a soldering iron, then you press the release button to suck up the liquid solder into the pump.

Q: Is a desoldering pump reusable?

A: Yes, desoldering pumps are fully reusable. Just empty the chamber periodically and clean the tip if it gets clogged.

Q: Do I need a soldering iron to use this pump?

A: Yes. A soldering iron is used to melt the solder first — the pump then removes it while still molten.

Q: What type of solder can it remove?

A: Desoldering pumps work best with lead-based or lead-free solder on through-hole components. They are less effective for surface-mount parts (which are sometimes small enough to be sucked up themselves!) without additional tools.

Q: How do I clean and maintain a desoldering pump?

A: Unscrew the tip to remove built-up solder inside the barrel. Clean the exterior with a dry cloth or alcohol wipe, and check the spring and seal for wear. While one nozzle can last a very long time, if it becomes damaged (e.g.: impact from falling), it can be replaced. Contact us if you need to obtain a replacement nozzle.

Good desoldering pump

It does the job fine, nice easy-to-use design, but I'd have preferred if it came with a few different nozzle sizes because the nozzle it comes fitted with doesn't work too well for small surface mounted ICs - can't get in close enough. Perfectly fine for general use though.

Hi Ronnie, thank you for taking the time to leave this review—we really appreciate it! We find that desoldering braid is a better option for removing SMD chips than a desoldering pump—our technical team can provide you with some advice on this if you wish, just contact us. Also, we do supply replacement nozzles, including different sizes... we'll supply them free-of-charge (just pay for postage). Please reach out to our customer service team with your request and they'll help you.

Excellent all round

The quality is excellent. It’s an inexpensive desoldering pump, but it works perfectly and helps a lot in my work. It comes with a nozzle with sealing ring included. The handle is soft and comfortable, very easy to use. It removes solder well and works just as expected.
