Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Do I need prior experience to use this kit?
A: No! The kit is designed for beginners. Clear online tutorials and example projects make it easy to get started, even if you’ve never coded before. Refer to the "Assembly and Usage Info" and "Links and References" drop-down sections on this page for our selection of top Arduino resources.

Q: What can I build with this kit?
A: Many projects are possible, including robots, temperature sensors, LED displays, RFID access systems, alarms, games, and more. It’s perfect for exploring robotics, automation, and creative coding. Refer to the "Assembly and Usage Info" section on this page to see some examples of what is possible with this kit. What you can create is only limited by your imagination!

Q: Is this the official Arduino board?
A: The kit includes a high-quality Arduino UNO R3 compatible board. It works seamlessly with the official Arduino IDE software and has exactly the same performance characteristics as the official board.

Q: Do I need extra parts or tools?
A: Everything you need is included in the kit, apart from a PC/Laptop computer to upload your code. A USB cable is provided for connecting the board to the computer. Most projects are solder-free, but the 1602A LCD display requires header pins to be soldered on as a one-time setup. Once those pins are installed, you can reuse the component in your projects without needing a soldering iron again. If you don't own a soldering iron, you could ask someone that does own one to solder the pins for you. Any electronics repair shop would also be more than happy to solder them for you, possibly even without a charge—it literally takes less than 1 minute to do!

Q: Can kids use this kit?
A: Yes. The kit is recommended for ages 12+, but younger children can still enjoy and learn from it, especially with adult help. It’s an excellent way for parents and kids to explore STEM, electronics, and coding together which makes the kit great for adult-kid bonding time!

Q: Are there any safety concerns, such as electrical shock with this kit?
A: Adult supervision is advised for young learners when handling small parts or wiring, but there is no risk of electrical shock or fire when using this kit.

Tools and Materials Required

No special tools needed!

Arduino projects are built on a piece of equipment called a breadboard. This breadboard is included with this kit. With a breadboard, connections are made by simply pushing wires into slots—so soldering tools are not required.

Note: refer to FAQ in relation to once-off soldering requirement for header pins for the LCD screen.

Arduino is fun!

Great set. Using it to teach my son some basic electronics, and using it myself to do some more advanced electronics projects. I'm not too good with the Arduino coding just yet, I don't think I have the brain for it, but with practice I'm sure I'll improve. Thanks Science Hut!

Hi Ernest - thanks for your review, we really appreciate you taking the time! Sure, the Arduino coding will become easier for you the more you work on it. Nothing beats trial and error and troubleshooting to promote more rapid learning. Perhaps your son might overtake you with his coding knowledge, then he can teach you :D Glad to hear your Arduino kit is facilitating quality time with him!

Great starter kit

Amazing what you can do with this kit. I've followed some tutorials on Youtube and the Arduino website, all worked like a charm. Using ChatGPT to help come up with and debug code for my own creations, very excited with it, my new favourite past time. Do ye sell gears and wheels and that kind of stuff to use for making devices to work with the motors and servos? Would be good to have...

Hi Ronnie, thanks for taking the time to write this review, we really appreciate it! Great to hear you're enjoying the kit and having success with it so far. We do have a set of fixtures including wheels, sprockets, gear assemblies, etc - we're currently building the product page and should have it listed in the next few days (by mid Oct 2024). We'll drop you an email to let you know once it's listed if you interested. Thanks for your custom!

Excellent set

The board is instantly recognized as an Arduino UNO R3. Fantastic selection of sensors and actuators, ideal combination for potentially thousands of cool projects. Would like to see some add-ons in the product catalogue - e.g.: additional sensors, additional connectivity modules such as WiFi and Bluetooth, a wider range of actuators so that I can expand the kits capabilities even further. This is excellent though, coming in really handy during classroom demonstrations. Thank you!

Hi Michael, thanks so much for your order and for taking the time to leave a review. We are in fact working on a range of standalone Arduino components to sell through our store. Our procurement team are working on a shortlist of high-demand items that we can start building the collection with. We're likely to start listing these in about 4-6 weeks once we have the logistics and supply chain worked out. Feel free to reach out to us on info@thesciencehut.com if you have any particular needs or recommendations that you'd like us to consider.

Mind-blowing fun

Only recently got into electronics after trying some of the kits on this site, but was quickly drawn to Arduino projects because of the ability to create your own devices. I've had this 3 days and haven't stopped tinkering with it, learning loads about how to code on the Arduino website... this is definitely my best hobby choice for years! Thanks
