Scientific principles illustrated

Using a multimeter gives valuable insights into many electrical and electronic principles. It is an essential tool for electronic engineering, electrical engineering, and is required for many electronic STEM projects. Here are some scientific principles that are demonstrated through the use of a digital multimeter:

Voltage, current and resistance measurement

Accurate measurement of these parameters is fundamental for analyzing and designing electrical systems. They are the foundations upon which all today's modern electronic conveniences are based. The multimeter is an essential tool for anyone wishing to design or repair an electronic device.

Verification of Ohm's Law

Ohm's Law states the link between voltage, current, and resistance in a circuit. By measuring these using a multimeter on a simple circuit, we can confirm Ohm's law. This is an excellent demonstration that can be done very easily to educate learners about the relationships that make all electrical devices function. Learners can take measurements using the multimeter and plug them into the equation (as shown below) to verify that the results they obtain from actual measurements obey Ohm's law.

V = IR

Where,
  • V = voltage
  • I = Current
  • R = Resistance

Continuity Testing

Multimeters allow us to perform continuity testing to ensure there is an unbroken path for current to flow through. This is crucial for identifying open circuits or faulty connections in electronic systems. Users learn about the importance of secure and correct connections for electrical devices. The multimeter empowers them to troubleshoot issues with electronic circuits and helps to develop their skills in identifying where a fault may exist in a circuit.

Component Testing

Multimeters can be used to test diodes, resistors, transistors, capacitors, and essentially all other electronic components. This allows learners to understand how these components affect electrical behavior. This knowledge empowers them to understand how components should be connected in sequence or in series in order to achieve a desired electrical outcome.

Accurate and reliable

Instructions are a little vague but if you already know how to use a multimeter, that won't really matter. Tested it on the mains power supply and on some cell batteries and it was accurate to within 0.5%.

Works fine

For the price works well, it is light compared to my old brand models so seems a little fragile, will see in time.
